Getting into Cybersecurity

Starting a new career path into Cybersecurity

It is quite overwhelming to start a new career path, let alone Cybersecurity!  This is a challenging field with so many different paths to take: from OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) to Blue Team (Securing an Organization) or Red Team (Penetration Testing).  You have many options and decisions to make along the way. The good news is that if you’re just starting out, there are a lot of basics you will need regardless of where you want to end up in the field.  I would recommend getting some basic certifications like CompTIA A+ and CompTIA N+. There are also a ton of free resources for learning Cyber cyber security, which I will give a link to later.  Hackthebox.com and tryhackme.com are two excellent places to start to see if you enjoy doing this type of work. They have tons of free engagements that help to understand some of the basics.  Three of the most fundamental areas of learning that are critical to being successful in this field would be Linux, networking, and programming.  These are the core building blocks that are a must. From there, getting further certifications like CompTIA Security+, eJPT (ine.com) or PNPT (tcm-sec.com) are going to land you an entry level job in the field.
